Study of the Influence of Permeability Variation on Methane Emission around a Developing Roadway
Coal seam permeability has a great influence on the methane emission rate. The variation of stress distribution around a developing roadway causes the change of coal seam permeability when the roadway is driven. The finite difference method is applied to simulate the methane flow in coal seam around a driving roadway and the influence of permeability variation on methane pressure distribution and methane emission rate is studied. It is revealed that the permeability variation caused by re-distribution of stress around a roadway greatly affects the methane flow in coal seam and the influence varies with the increase of exposure time of coal wall. Therefore, the variation of permeability caused by movement of strata around a driving roadway must be taken into consideration when the methane emission into roadway is calculated.
