Outburst Initiation Simulation with a Coupled Approach
Presented in this paper is a hybrid method to simulate the initiation process of an outburst by taking into consideration both coal deformation and failure and gas adsorption/ desorption. A three-dimensional numerical simulator was developed to couple FLAC3D (a mechanical stress analysis code) and COMET3 (a reservoir simulator) in order to simulate the process of stress redistribution due to mining and gas/water flow in coal/rock.
