Experimental Study of Temperature Distribution of Pool Fires Flames Extinguished by Water Mist in Confined Space

Experimental study of temperature distribution and fire flame structure in the course of extinguishing pool fire by water mist in confined space was conducted using IR thermal imagining technique and conventional thermocouples method for comparison. By means of detailed analysis of temperature field, it was put forward that there are three regions, namely core reaction region, ventilation-controlled region and fuel-controlled region in the pool fire flames and some characteristics of temperature distribution were found. The region with the highest temperature in the flame exists certain distance apart from fuel surface. A brief qualitative analysis of interaction between water mists and pool fire flames was performed in the end. It was clear that a better knowledge of disturbances of the flame structure is not dispensable for better understanding of water mist suppression mechanism.
