How to Develop an Emergency Plan for Schools
The emergency management system (or crisis management system) is one of the effective measures to cope with the hazards that threaten schools. Preparedness is the second phase of emergency management. The emergency planning is the most important section in the phase of preparedness. In spite of our best efforts of prevention or mitigation, some emergencies can still happen at any time in schools. A key point to minimizing the cost and effects of emergencies is to make an effective emergency plan. A schools ability to cope with the impact of emergencies depends on whether it has prepared plans. Scott Poland recommends ten guidelines for creating emergency plans. The Process of Emergency Planning involves four steps: to recruit the planning team, analyze the hazards in schools, develop a plan, and test and maintain the plan.
