Accumulation of Coalbed Methane in the Shuangquan Coal Mine of Anyang Coal District, Henan Province

The coalbed methane resource is abundant in the II1 coal reservoir of Shuangquan coal mine, gas resource in-place is about 2×108 m3/km2. Based on data obtained from exploration for coal and coalbed methane and coal mine, the coalbed methane preservation and accumulation are systematically discussed in this paper. Coalbed methane content is high, about 10-33.5 m3/t, and higher in the south area than in the north area, east than west, which is controlled by hydrodynamics and burial depth of coal seam. The slow runoff zone and stagnant zone are the favorable area for coalbed methane accumulation. The roof and floor that is mainly made up of mudstone and siltstone provide favorable condition for coalbed methane accumulation. The sealing fault with striking NNE and the good juxtaposition are the favorable factors of coalbed methane accumulation. Reservoir pressure is high and pressure coefficient is 0.9-1.02; the capability of adsorption is large with Langmuir volume is 24.37-36.67 m3/t. Permeability is relatively lower with 0.0085-0.93×10-3 μm2 because coal was seriously deformed. The geological condition is favorable for accumulation of coalbed methane in this area, but under strong tectonic stresses, coal reservoir became mylonitic coal, and permeability is very low. Coalbed methane development with conventional technology is probably difficulty.
