Experimental study on lateral forced surface waves in a circular cylindrical container
Water waves in a lateral excited circular cylindrical container were investigated experimentally. The refraction pattern of the laser beam shining from below was captured by a photographic paper placed above the container. Sequences of axisymmetric capillary waves, circumferential capillary waves, jumping droplets and large amplitude gravity waves were studied as the excitation amplitude increased to investigate the wave evolution mechanisms. The viscous effects are shown to play an important role in the formation of the Dragon-Wash phenomena.
