Improved simple fixed-point iteration method for stress evaluation in nonlinear hybrid finite elements

Composite materials often exhibit nonlinear behavior to an extent and thus accurate results cannot always be obtained using a linear model. Nonlinear hybrid stress finite elements have been used to study this nonlinear behavior. However, the convergent solution cannot be obtained for large load, In this study based on the Hahn-Tsai model, the stress-displacement nonlinear equations for canonical element of pure shear deformation were investigated and the relationship between the iteration parameter and convergent rate was revealed. Consequently an improved simple fixed-point iteration for stress field was proposed. The resulting procedure has a fast rate of convergence that is verified through a numerical example.
