Nonlinear response of FGM circular plates subjected to periodic surface thermal loadings

Based upon the von Karmans nonlinear plate theory, axi-symmetrical nonlinear response of a thin simply supported circular FGM plate subjected to periodic surface temperature rise were investigated. The material properties of an FGM plate were graded continuously in the direction of thickness. The variation of properties followed a simple power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of the constituents. The through thickness temperature distribution was assumed to be two parts, static and dynamic. The temperature distributions were solved from one-dimensional unsteady-state heat transfer equation. The static and dynamic thermal force and moment resultants were taken as external excitation. By assuming that die vibration is harmonic and using Kantorovich time averaging method the time variable is eliminated and the partial differential equations are converted into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The numerical solution of the boundary-value problem was obtained by using a shooting method. The effects of the static and dynamic temperature parameter on the frequencies and amplitudes are examined in detail.
