Mode analysis and control of smart Timoshenko beam

The objective of active vibration control is to reduce the vibrations of a system by automatic modification of the systems structural response. Active vibration control is widely used because of its broad frequency response range, low additional mass, high adaptability and good efficiency, In recent years the control of structural vibrations using smart materials has received considerable attention but a very few control methods have been brought into application. A lot of research has been done on Euler Bernoulli beam model. This paper presents a control method for the vibration of the Timoshenko beam by virtue of the artificial neural network1,2. Firstly, the paper analyzes the vibration characters of Timoshenko beam which is mounted by PZT and gives the simple model of it. Then die paper analyzes the vibration modes based on the simple model. At last the paper designs control system using neural network methods and the characteristics of the system are simulated numerically by MATLAB.
