Nonlinear identification in dynamic response of wedged-ring joint structure

A simplified model was presented for analyzing the dynamic response of the wedged-ring joint structure. The parameters in the model were identified by using the equivalent linearization method combined with the Duffing equation, and the damping ratio determined by the equivalent linearization method was introduced into the Duffing equation to simulate the amplitude-frequency characteristic curves varying with the excitation forces. The quantitative analysis on the stiffness change was carried out at various root mean square (RMS) values of excitation force. The results illustrate the mechanical mechanism that the looseness in the joint results in decreasing stiffness, and the wedged-ring joint structure exhibits a soft nonlinear property. Finally, the nonlinear properties, such as the instability and jump phenomenon, in vibration response of the structure were modeled by the Duffing equation.
