Mechanical behavior of coated membrane materials under bi-axial tensile loads

A feasible method to estimate the modulus for membrane construction materials under bi-axial loads has been presented. The membrane materials are treated as orthotropic and elastic materials. Based on the constitutive relationships for orthotropic, linear and elastic materials, equations for the estimation of moduli of each loading direction with the consideration of various stress ratios have been deduced. The prediction equations of the moduli under bi-axial tensile loads include the parameters tested from the uni-axial tensile tests of the materials only. From the comparison of the experimental results and the predicted results, it can be noticed that the prediction model has achieved ideal results when it comes to the estimation of moduli in the leading direction.
