Evolution law of hysteresis curve and deformation characteristic of PVC membrane materials under cyclic biaxial loads

Through the biaxial tensile experiments of PVC membrane materials, tensile performances of the samples were analyzed under cyclic loads at seven ratios of warp stress to weft stress. The orthotropic characteristics and the evolution law of hysteresis curve of PVC membrane materials were studied, and the deformation characteristic was also discussed. The results indicate that, the membrane material stress-strain curve forms a plastic-loop under the cyclic loads due to the nonlinearity. Furthermore, the hysteresis curve is nearly unchangeable because of the second cyclic loading at normal work stress level and the fitting parameters are related to the stress ratios. On the other hand, the residual strain after the first cyclic loading is apparent but because of the second cyclic loading, the new residual strain gradually decreases and the total residual strain is nearly unchangeable. In addition, with the increase of the stress ratios, the residual strain in the warp direction changes from negative to positive and the residual strain in the weft direction decreases gradually.
