Numerical simulation for determining mechanical properties of single crystal from nanoindentation

The mechanical properties of zeolite femerite (FER) single crystal were determined experimentally and numerically. Firstly, the zeolite FER was synthesized with the method proposed by A Kuperman et al in a near non-aqueous solvent An MTS Nano Indenter XP was used to measure its mechanical properties to obtain a load-displacement curve. Secondly, according to the bilinear elastic-plastic material hypothesis, the 2D axial symmetrical element model was adopted to simulate the nanoindentation process by using the ANSYS finite element code. The simulated results were compared with nanoindentation experimental loaddisplacement curves. Reasonably good agreements were observed. Then, the bilinear elastic-plastic constitutive relation of zeolite FER single crystals was gained. Finally, in order to expose the nanoindentation experimental process and verify the constitutive laws of zeolite ferrierite crystals, 3D finite element method was adopted.
