Anisotropic and nonlinear properties of living pig cornea under biaxial loads

The biomechanical behavior of living pig cornea under biaxial loads was studied. Anisotropic and nonlinear properties of the cornea were analyzed based on the experimental dataset of samples and the anisotropic mechanics theory. The tension and constant cycle tests were performed using a biaxial tensile tester of Zwick-Z010 made in Germany with micro clamping for soft tissue. The material constants, stress and strain responses, ultimate strength, maximum distortion energy and energy density were discussed The cyclic tensile tests show that the hysteresis loss is stable as the cycles increase. It is also found that the stretch ratio for the short axis of cornea is greater than the one for the longer axis, and some valuable conclusions were reached.
