Three-dimensional numerical study of flow structures and mixing effect of impinging jets in different Y typed micro-mixers
The miniaturization of mechanical devices requires the use of micro structures in the design. However, fouling or precipitation is generally found in the microchannels of micro chemo mechanical systems. Impinging jet micromixers provide a solution against fouling. Thus a fluid mechanics simulation was performed based on a three-dimensional finite volume method in order to optimize the design of the micromixers. It is found that the angle of the jets and the jet speed have an important influence on the mixing quality while the effect of density ratio of the two fluids is insignificant.
