Numerical simulation of typhoon Shanshan and typhoon wind field decomposition with variational method
Typhoon Shanshan is simulated using the weather research and forcasting (WRF) model (V2.1.2). In order to research the flow field structure of typhoon Shanshan, the variational method is used twice to cany out flow field decomposition. First, the typhoon flow field is decomposed into an asymmetrical vortex and irrotationnal field, and then the asymmetrical vortex is decomposed into a maxmimaum symmetrical vortex and asymmetrical β gyres. Decomposition of 600 hPa wind field of typhoon Shanshan at various forecast time indicates that, this method can provide valuable information for studies of typhoon movement mechanism.
