Numerical assessment of effects of inflow distortion on performance of wind tunnel axial flow fan
The effect of inflow distortion on the efficiency of wind tunnel axial flow fan is investigated numerically in the present study. Five generic types of inflow distortion were considered, together with the inflow distortion actually found in the wind tunnel. It was found that when compared with the case with uniform inflow, all cases with inflow distortion led to deterioration in fan efficiency. The presence of cross wind was found to have the most adverse effect. The physical mechanics for such an adverse effect was explained. The present study suggests the possibility of optimally designing the wind tunnel axial flow fan based on the conditions found in the actual wind tunnel.
