Effect of solidity on wind tunnel corner vane losses
The effect of solidity on wind tunnel corner vane losses is studied in the present paper. While computational fluid mechanics (CFD) tools were mainly used for the study, experiment was carried for validations. It is shown that as the solidity increases, the aerodynamic loss of wind tunnel corner turning vanes decreases first due to the reduced loss from the secondary flow. Further increase in solidity would lead to an eventual increase in the loss due to the increase of friction loss. These findings suggest the existence of an optimal number of corner turning vanes for a given wind tunnel.
