Numerical experiments about growth of disturbance energy of potential vorticity equation within finite time scope
The growth of disturbance energy of the potential vorticity equation within finite time interval was studied This equation was discretesized with an implicit difference scheme and the disturbance energy was computed in four different vertical shear conditions respectively. The disturbance energies are all found to be sharply increasing for the four different vertical shear conditions at the beginning. Though the disturbance energy brings about some oscillatory growth phenomena in the following time, it decreases with the time finally.
