A wavelet multi-resolution collocation method for nonlinear vibration of MDOF systems
In this paper, a multi-resolution wavelet collocation method was proposed for the nonlinear vibration of MDOF systems whose solutions may have multiple time scales on the DOFs concerned. The proposed method was based on a modified wavelet expansion constructed by the authors in which bom the initial and the ending values of the first-order time derivatives of unknown functions are explicitly included in the wavelet coefficient set. Therefore, the treatment of initial conditions in our method is straightforward, and the original vibration equations need not to be transformed to state equations in advance. Hence, the memory space required in our method may be about 1/2 of that needed for the wavelet methods based on state equations, while the computation efficiency may be about twice higher than the methods based on state equations. The multiple time resolutions were employed for the DOFs concerned. The effectiveness of our method was verified by applying it to some test problems.
