Coupled optimization on improved piezoelectric harvester for feeble vibration source
The performance of an energy harvester subjected to low level ambient mechanical vibration/noise with varying amplitude was analyzed. The harvesting structure, consisting of a piezoelectric bimorph in parallel with a synchronized switch harvesting inductor (SSHI), is connected with the storage battery as an integrated system through a modulating circuit. The modulating circuit is composed of a full-bridged rectifier and a DC-DC converter which is used to boost up the optimal rectified voltage to match with the battery voltage for efficient charging. In addition, the SSHI is employed in the harvesting structure to artificially extend the conducting interval of the rectifier, which can effectively raise the charging efficiency. Numerical results show that the application of a SSHI in the harvesting structure and/or a DC-DC converter in the modulating circuit can raise the charging efficiency several times higher man a harvester without a SSffl and/or a DC-DC converter.
