PL PROPERTIES OF MESOPOROUS MATERIALS DOPED WITH Eu(bpy)2Cl3
Rare earth complexes, especially Eu3+ complexes, have been studied extensively. However, there are a few reports on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of europium complexes immobilized in unmodified or modified hexagonal MCM-41 and cubic MCM-48. The properties of the guests in the mesoporous channels greatly depend on the structure and the microenvironment of the mesopores. Recently, we investigated the PL properties of Eu(bpy)23+ impregnated HMS, and SBA-15 materials and similar results to those of the above publications were found. However, it was found that the loaded Eu species is easy to loss when washed. To improve the immobilization efficiency of Eu species, here we reported that Eu doped mesoporous material (Eu-MM) was directly synthesized by mixing Eu (bpy)23+ (bpy: 2, 2- bipyridine) in the mixure of starting materials with solvent evaporation method at room temperature using the nonionic triblock template Pluronic 123 (P123, Aav = 5800), EO20PO70EO20, as a template. The mesoporous structure was kept for the Eu doped mesoporous material and the immobilization efficiency of Eu species is higher than that of Eu doped amorphous silica or the Eu(bpy)2Cl3 impregnated sample. Compared to the pure Eu(bpy)2Cl3 complex and the complex doped in amorphous silica, the Eu species in Eu-MM samples exhibted higher PL efficiency.
