CLINICAL VALUES OF COMBINED HEPATOMA-SPECIFIC AFP FRACTION AND AFP-mRNA DETERMINATION IN DIAGNOSIS AND DIFFERENTIATION OF HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide. HOC prognosis is poor and early detection is of the utmost importance. Although serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a useful tumor marker for the detection and monitoring of HCC development, the false-negative or false-positive rate with AFP level alone may be as high as 30 % - 40 % for patients with small size HCC. To enhance the specificity and accuracy of AFP for HCC diagnosis, we analyzed AFP expression statues in liver tissues, detected serum hepatoma-specific ALP fraction CALP-L3) and AFP-mRNA from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), and explored their clinical implications for HCC diagnosis.
