EXTERNAL CONTROL OF THE METABOLISM AND THE CELLULAR COMMUNICATION BY THE NEWLY DEVELOPED MICRO-GRID SYSTEM
Cellular slime mold, Dtctyostelium discoideum, is the unicellular amoeba. However, on starvation they communicate each other by cAMP pulses, and the differentiation from the single cell state to the multicellular state is controlled by the different type of cAMP pulses. To utilize such characters for the quantitative study we propose a new micro-grid system that enables the external control of the metabolism and the differentiation. Our micro-grid system can create various cAMP pulses and send them to the target amoebae. Thus, we control the cellular differentiation externally for the quantitative analysis. We also plan to use cell clusters trapped in the micro welts as artificial organs, too.
