Spin Reorientation Transition and Magnetic Phase Diagram of R(Fe, Mo)12 Compounds
Spin-reorientation transitions in the ThMn12-type intermetallic compounds Tb1-xYxFe11Mo (x=0.0-1.0), Nd1-xTbxFe10.5Mo1.5(x=0.0-1.0) and RFe11Mo(R=Nd, Tb, Dy, Ho and Er) were investigated by means of x-ray powder diffraction and magnetization measurements. Magnetic phase diagrams of the compounds were constructed experimentally. Based upon the single-ion approximation for the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of rare earth ions and the mean-field model, theoretical magnetic phase diagrams were derived by minimizing the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy of the compounds and elucidated the observed spin-reorientation transitions. A series of crystal-electric-field parameters that reasonably reproduce the experimental phase diagrams were achieved.
