Kinetics for Coarsening Co-controlled by Diffusion and Reversible Interface-reaction
Kinetics for coarsening co-controlled by diffusion and reversible interface reaction has been investigated theoretically. Equations of particle-size distribution (PSD) and particle growth have been deduced, through which the effects of the competition, in terms of rate-controlling strength, between diffusion and interface-reaction on kinetics behaviors are revealed. When coarsening is mainly controlled by interface reaction the PSD is broad and squat but, along with the enhancement of the rate-controlling strength of diffusion, it changes continuously to be narrower and shaper and finally becomes the form suggested by Lifshitz and Slyozov. The particle growth formula is a sum of the third power law and the second power law.In a relative short period of time, it can be approximately expressed as -Rn =Kt with the exponent varying between 2 and 3, depending on the coarsening stage and/or coarsening system.
