The influence of an external magnetic field on the thermodynamic properties and phase transition in iron-based systems

The influence of applied magnetic field (H) on some thermodynamic properties and α/γ phase transition in iron-based alloys was studied. Under various external magnetic fields, the values of magnetization (M) are calculated from Weiss molecular field theory in pure iron and Fe-X alloys, then the values of Curie temperature are obtained. The results indicate that they both increase with increasing the field strength due to the exchange interaction is enhanced, and the external magnetic field not only products an external magnetic Gibbs free energy but also has an effect on internal magnetic field, which makes the internal magnetic Gibbs free energy decrease. Finally, the α/γ phase transition temperatures of iron-based alloys are increased.
