AUTOMATIC DEFECT DETECTION FOR RADIOGRAPHY IMAGES
The non-destructive radiographic methods of inspection have been widely used over the decades to evaluate the integrity of material and equipment in a wide range of industries. Digital technology has been used for radiography acquisition, radiographic image processing, defect detection and classification. This paper reviews image processing and pattern recognition for defect detection and identification, particularly automatic inspection for radiography. New image processing algorithm local histogram equalisation is used for defect detection and quantification. This paper introduces one contrast limited adaptive histogram equalisation for defect detection and classification with the help of automatic identification of region of interest. Comparison study with other image enhancement is also reported in the paper. Experimental tests are reported. In the end, some fusion process of the non-destructive evaluation with other modality of non-destructive testing is discussed in the paper. This work can be used for automatic non-destructive evaluation and structural health monitoring.
