Theoretical Analysis of the Effects of the Linear Birefringence in Fibre Optical Sensor for Electromagnetic Measurement
The research of the measuring methods for electromagnetic pulse have important significance. The principle and the scheme of the optical fiber sensor based on magneto-optic crystal are introduced. The effect of the linear birefringence and the incident polarizing angle on the output performance of the optical fiber sensor are derived and analyzed using Jones Matrix and the simulations are made. The research indicate that the linear birefringence can suppress the rotation effect of the crystal, destroy the linearity of the system and decide the effects of the incident polarizing angle on the output. When incident polarizing angle has some special values the DC term induced by the two effects can be eliminated and the sensitivity of the system to the linear birefringence will be minimized at the same time.
