Condition Based Maintenance for Redundant Systems

Preventive maintenance always costs more repair time and makes the system unsafely especially to complex system while condition-based maintenance (CBM) can detect the system state (normal or fault) in real time and realize the system maintenance with short repair time. Directing to the problem of once-fault-once-repair (OFOR) strategy, this paper presents a new repair strategy that is called maximum permitted maintenance (MPM) for redundant system, studies the influence of the failure rate and repairable rate, investigates the optimal repair time within the permitted repair time and provides the simulation verification. The results indicate that there exists the optimal repair time for redundant system, so CBM based on MPM can be executed in optimal way with short repair time and high effectiveness.
