Foundations for GM(1,1) Modelling of System Lifetimes
Grey theory is a mathematical branch dealing with system analysis based small sample extracted from the system investigated. The modeling system lifetimes in terms of the first-order one variable grey differential equation, abbreviated as GM(1,1) model, has gain a success with relatively high predictive power. However, for maintenance planning, it is necessary to provide highly accurate predictions to next few lifetimes. The improvement may come from further modeling of residuals. The current approaches are less efficient because they ignore the information from negative residuals. In this paper, we explore the approach, proposed by Guo (2006), to fit GM(1,1) model to real-valued discrete data sequence in terms of spline function.
