Maintenance Resources Assessment Based on Process Modeling and Simulation

This paper is to provide a petri net maintenance process model for resource assessment and performance analysis. Because the maintenance process consists of lots of resource conflict problems and concurrent phenomena, it is difficult to analyze by the traditional queuing theory. By the stronger capability of describing the synchronization and conflict phenomena. Petri net becomes a powerful tool to analyze maintenance process. A maintenance process model based on timed coloured Petri net is constructed, which uses the ExSpect language. The total model was composed of two subsystems: Resource Prepare subsystem and Repair Process subsystem. It reflects the synchronization and conflict phenomena of maintenance process and can analyze the performance on the condition of a certain maintenance resources. The model can support maintenance resources assessment and system operational availability assessment and maintenance process re-engineering. At last, a simulation example is given.
