Several Measures of System Availability and Their Properties
Availability is an important characteristic of a system. In this paper we will review several different types of availability and their properties. These include (1) the steady system availability as the limit of the instantaneous availability; (2) the long-run availability as the limit of the average availability in an interval; (3) system availability with both complete and minimal repair; (4) system availability with inspection; (5) pseudo system availability with inspection and replacement; and (6) interval availability.
