Research on Failure Mechanisms of Gun Barrel
Barrel is one of the main parts of gun. It is found from unit practice that to heavy caliber arms and artillery, the armaments life is the barrels life. Modernized war needs armaments have high capability, but its life is reduced accordingly. Increasing gun barrels life is an urgent problem to be resolved. In this paper, following researches were done on quantity of barrels and approved that the main reasons which lead to gun barrel failure are erosion and wear. It is more important that we achieved the mechanisms for erosion and wean thermal, dynamic, physical and chemical actions of powder gas and mechanical action of projectile. This affords a theory foundation for the increase of barrels life.
