Influence of Processing Parameters on Gas-assisted Injection Molding
In order to describe accurately the gas penetration behavior and analyze the influence of processing parameters on gas-assisted injection molding, a mathematical model is presented which describes transient pressure and gas-melt interface development. The model is given on the basis of Hele-Shaw approximation and interface kinematics. Numerical simulations are implemented to calculate the pressure and the length of gas penetration by using Finite Element Method on a fixed mesh. Extensive molding experiments are performed at different processing parameters in cluding the amount of melt injected into the mold, gas pressure and melt tempera ture. Finally, the influence of these parameters on the length of gas penetration is analyzed and discussed.
