Spacer Fabrics Used as Cushion for Pressure Relief

Warp knitted spacer fabrics for usage in technical area, particularly in medical care are growing very fast due to their unique properties. Spacer fabric has high fastness and thickness, light weight, very good breathability and compressibility, and all these properties can be changed by using different materials and structures. In this paper, we have done some tests on pressure relief. The experimental results show that more effective improvement of pressure reduction can be obtained by using cushions of spacer fabrics instead of conventional polyurethane foam. So spacer fabrics have not only better breathability but also higher pressure relief than polyurethane foam. By selecting suitable materials, structures and machine setting, the compressibility of the spacer fabrics can be regulated so as to produce comfortable cushions and mattresses.
