Compression and Thermal Insulation Properties of Kapok Battings

Kapok is a unique fiber which has a large hollow structure naturally, and relative research has been carried out in recent years. Traditional kapok batting is used limitedly for its weakness of strength and duration of compression and recovery. In the interest of improving it, we developed kapok battings blended with other fibers by air-laid and thermo-bonded methods. We compared four samples we made with other battings, and testing results showed the resilience was improved obviously. We also verified their thermal insulation properties. The results indicate the warm retention abilities of these kapok battings still remain good.
