An Assessment to Thermal and Moisture Transfer Properties of Moisture Absorbent & Quick Drying Apparels
In this paper, the thermal and moisture transfer properties of several moisture absorbent & quick drying fabrics were characterized using moisture management tester (MMT). Thermal and moisture transfer properties of these apparels were assessed based on an objective sweating manikin as well as a subjective assessment. The relationships among these tests will be investigated. Analysis of the experimental results verified that, liquid moisture transfer properties and thermal and moisture transfer properties of apparels are under obvious influence of fabric surface properties, moisture absorbent &. quick drying fiber content, fiber component, fabric structure and thickness. Correlation analysis indicates that more quick the WT (top and bottom wetting time) and AR (top and bottom absorption rate), lower MWR, (top max wetting-radius), larger MWRb (bottom max wetting radius), higher OWTC (accumulative one-way transfer capacity) and OMMC (overall moisture management capacity), more obvious the subjective perception of stuffy at different periods and the subjective perception of thermal at the time pd2, less obvious the subjective perception of clingy at the time pd4, more obvious the subjective perception of damp at the time pd2. larger water vapor permeability, smaller moisture resistance, bigger thermal resistance, more obvious subjective perception of damp and the less obvious subjective perception of clingy at the time pd2.
