Skirt Simulation Based on a Precise Cloth Model
Cloth model is essential for 3-D garment simulation. A model based on Finite Element Method (FEM) describing the mechanical properties of woven fabrics precisely was presented in this paper. The mechanical properties in terms of tensile, shearing and bending were obtained by using the KES test, and bending length test. Thin polyester and thick cotton were chosen as samples. The cantilever beam test and drape test were simulated by using a FEM package and compared with the actual tests respectively. Good agreement was obtained. Moreover, two-piece short skirts, made of the two types of fabrics were simulated, the anisotropy of woven fabrics was visualized in simulating skirts made of patterns cut along different directions. The experimental results confirmed the accuracy and feasibility of the model.
