Deficiencies and Resolving-methods on Foot/Shoe Finite Element Simulation
Specially designed footwear, insole/in-shoe and orthoses are used to reduce the high plantar pressure and internal stresses of foot. Finite element (FE) simulation can quantitatively analyze the overall plantar pressure and internal stress-distributions of the foot-shoe-structures using an appropriate model and assist design of footwear. Research-deficiencies are pointed out, including four problems. The first, collaborative works of multi-subjects researchers are not executed. The second, model must be properly defined for foot-shoe-structures and applicable finite element method (FEM) must be developed for foot-structures. The third, articular movements of foot is not applied in FE modeling. The forth, dynamically mechanical interaction simulations of foot-shoe-ground contact system are not developed, and the contact system involves two contact interfaces (between the shoe and the foot, the foot and the ground). Corresponding resolvingmethods are also respectively proposed. Mechanical researchers are major during modeling and FE-simulation, and biomechanical researchers are major during analysis of post-simulation. Articular movements of foot can be obtained by simulation of multi-body system dynamics or highspeed X-ray camera system. The contact system can be developed by the master-slave algorithm to search contacting nodes and determine the locations of the contacting nodes. As numerous requirements for footwear are in world, researches on FE-simulation of foot-shoe must be further developed.
