Influence of the Process Conditions on the Wrapping Effectiveness of Core Spun Yarn in the Ring Spin System

Ring spinning principle is widely applied to manufacture a variety of yarns because of its simplicity and the good quality of the products. The technology has even been good established in the industry since long and most of filament core spun yarns are manufactured on the basis of the ring spinning method. But few reports about the core spinning technologies and the yarn performance are delivered in public. The field engineers have been trying to establish the technologies purely from the point of view of personal interest. Core spun yarns, however, have been undergone many problems in spite of the good points that were intended to attain in the initial development phase; for example, esthetic defects due to the asymmetrical location of the covering fibers and the altering position of the core filament, or peeling characteristics of the sheath fibers while being used. In this study we are going to analyze the effect of process variables on the quality of the yarn and to improve the technologies by stabilizing the core spinning process. Process variables such as spinning tension, filament feeding position, snail wire position, the angle between directions of the fiber fleece input and yarn output, etc. were considered. To determine the visual quality of the filament-core staple-sheath ring spun yarn, wrapping effective index was introduced.
