Manufacturing of 3D Integrated Cellular Woven Composites
3D Integrated Cellular woven structures including X Cellular, V Cellular and honeycomb Cellular in the warp cross for reinforced composite application are designed and manufactured on the reformed common 2D loom with wrapped glass fiber. Then by the technology of vacuum assisted resin infusion, these typical fabric preforms are made into reinforced composites. This special cellular structure designs can largely enhance the composite performance. Meanwhile, to improve the penetrability of resin into the fabric preforms, the resin recipe, viscosity of the resin liquid and related computing method have been researched. A model of the resin liquid flowing in the integrated 3D Cellular fabric is built and the reason of forming air avoids has researched. The manufacturing method used in this research can improve the quality of the composite through pumping out the air voids existed between the fibers or in the fibers. It shows that the 3D cellular shapes and dimensions in the woven structures and the final composites are close to each other.
