A Study of Silk Fiber Surface Modification with D4 Low Temperature Plasma
Silk fiber was treated with D4 ( (CH3 )2SiO4 ) low- temperature plasma. The changes as well as the mechanism of the changes in the characteristics of fiber surface, microstructures and physical and chemical properties such as wettability, anti-crease property were investigated using SEM, EDS, FTIR-ATR and DSA analysis. The results showed that the inter- woven resistance, wrinkle recovery angle and softness of treated silk fabric were improved and the sample exhibited a good water repellency property. EDS analysis showed that Si element in the fabric surface can be detected after D4 plasma treatment and ATR- FTIR analysis indicated a mass of Si-contained groups (-Si-O -and -Si- CH3- ) on the surface of silk fabric.
