Characterization of the Porous Scaffolds Prepared with Bombyx Mori Silk Fibroin Protein
A fusion protein was designed and produced by using the genetically engineering synthesis method, which was combined with a structural unit GAGAGS selected from the crystalline region of Bombyx mori silk fibroin and a functional unit, RGD sequence. Porous scaffolds were fabricated by adding different organic solvents or cross-linking agents into the fusion protein solution. A detailed investigation, including the swelling behavior, the SEM observation, the mechanical property and the cell adhesive ability, showed that the porous scaffolds could retain the original good compatibility to effectively accelerate cell infiltration and proliferation, suggesting that the fusion protein scaffold may be a potential candidate for tissue repairing with enhanced biostability and good biocompatibility.
