PASSBAND WIDTH TUNABLE FILTER AND ITS APPLICATION IN LOW COST ROADM NODE
A novel optical filter is introduced. It has tunability at both center wavelength and passband width. The design and performance of such filter are described and measured. Based on this device, a low cost ROADM node is designed. It has a stackable modular architecture and thus reduces the cost for the initial hardware deployment. It also provides flexible in-service reconfiguration capability for future upgrade.Comparing to other ROADM architecture, it reduces the filtering effect significantly because it does not require full demultiplexing and multiplexing for all channels.An experimental network is constructed and good performance is demonstrated.
