SELF-ORGANIZED COHERENT COMBINING OF FIBER LASER ARRAYS
We report the stable, coherent, and high addition efficiency in an array of fiber lasers. Provided that proper interactions between the coupled lasers are present 1, arrays will spontaneously self-organize into stable coherent states. There is no need for active control. Self-organized coherent combining of fiber laser arrays coupled with 2 fiber lasers is achieved with an 95% addition efficiency. The incoherent result due to the mismatch between the Bragg wavelengths of FBGs is also investigated. The outcome is obtained by arraying five fiber lasers with an 83.3% addition efficiency which would be increased by optimizing the device. The concept of self-organization brings some perspectives for power scaling of fiber laser. Hence a large number of moderate-power fiber lasers can be coherently coupled with high addition efficiency and high power.
