OPERATION OF A GAIN-GUIDED SOLITON FIBER LASER

We report on the operation of a gain-guided soliton fiber laser passively mode-locked by the nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) technique. Like the conventional soliton fiber laser mode-locked by the NPR technique, the cavity peak clamping effect still plays a role on the operation of the laser. We further show that different cavity designs could greatly affect the performance of the laser.
