BANDWIDTH BROADENING AND EFFICIENCY ENHANCEMENT OF A DOUBLE-PASS FORWARD L-BAND ERBIUM-DOPED SUPERFLUORESCENT FIBER SOURCE
A double-pass forward L-band erbium-doped superfluorescent fiber source (SFS) with a section of unpumped fiber between the reflector and the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) coupler is presented. The fiber length ratio of the unpumped fiber length to the total length is defined as RL. The effects of the fiber length ratio RL on the output characteristics of the L-band SFS are theoretically analyzed in details. The spectral bandwidth is broadened and the conversion efficiency is enhanced by optimizing RL.Experimentally, a broadband L-band SFS is obtained, with 3-dB bandwidth of 46nm (1558nm-1604nm), a power ripple less than 1dB and the slope efficiency of 41.5%.
