FP-SOA optical Signal Processing in Optical Packet Switching (Invited Paper)

In optical packet switching (OPS), Fabry-Perot Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (FP-SOA) is proposed to realize several optical signal processing functions including the separation of label and payload, power equalization and TTL (Time to Live). In the application of separating the label and payload, narrow pulses and wide pulses are suppressed with 10.5dB and 9dB respectively. In the realization of clamping the optical power, optical power variations are reduced from 10dB to 1.6dB. In the function of TTL, 6dB power extinction ratio is enhanced to 14.5dB.
