MESH UPGRADED RING IN METROPOLITAN NETWORK USING OXADM
This paper describes our recent approach toward advanced optical layer networks through the development of optical cross add and drop multiplexing (OXADM). The OXADM node focuses on providing functionally such as transport, multiplexing, routing, supervision, terminating and survivability in optical layer with ring and mesh topologies. Thus, OXADM is applicable for those networks that have to be migrated from ring to mesh and vice versa. OXADM also provide survivability through restoration against failures by means of linear, multiplex and ring protection to the both configuration. The protection mechanisms of OXADM is more efficient and more reliable compare to other restoration nodes because it does not need to drop and re-add the signal to activate the redundancy and process the signals in both electronic and optical domain as practiced in conventional nodes. The network has undergone performance test at 2.5 Gbps (OC-48) with BER less than 10-9 .
